Johan Galtung
Johan Galtung (1930 - 2024) was a Norwegian sociologist, mathematician and the founder of the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo in 1959. Having survived the Nazi occupation of Norway, he became a leading light in the world of peace meiation. He authored numerous books on the topic, including Pax Pacifica, Searching for Peace and Transcend and Transform. He was awarded the Right Livelihood Award in 1987 and the Norwegian Humanist Prize in 1988.
