Jean LaffitteBorn in 1952, Mgr Jean Laffitte obtained a degree in political science and a doctorate in moral theology, and was ordained priest in 1989. He served as head chaplain of Paray-le-Monial (1990-1994) before teaching ethics and the spirituality of marriae and family at the John Paul II Institute in Rome and in many other countries. A former vice-president of the Institute, he became a consultor to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (2005). From being Under-Secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Family in 2005-2006, he was appointed Vice-President of the Pontifical Academy for Life (2006-2009). Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Secretary of the Council for the Family in October 2009. He was consecrated bishop on 12 December 2009. At present he is Prelate of the Sovereign Order of Malta. He is also the author of numerous publications, including L'Offense désarmée, Le Pardon transfiguré, Amour conjugal et vocation à la sainteté (with Livio Melina) and Le Choix de la famille, all of which have been translated into several languages.
