Janine Marchessault
JANINE MARCHESSAULT is a Professor of Cinema and Media at York University. She is a founder of the Future Cinema Lab, and the 2014-2016 inaugural Director of Sensorium: Centre for Digital Arts Research at York. In 2012, she was awarded a Trudeau Fllowship to pursue her curatorial and public art research. She is the author of Ecstatic Worlds: Media, Utopias and Ecologies (MIT 2017); Cosmic Media: Marshall McLuhan (Sage 2005); and (co)editor of numerous collections. She is a member of the CinemaExpo67.ca research group and a founding member of the Public Access Collective. Her latest curatorial project is an expanded cinema festival XL Outer Worlds—commissioning five IMAX films by artists @Cinesphere 2019. She is the Project Director of Archive/Counter-Archive research project involving more than 14 community archives in Canada, exploring 21st century moving image archives as art forms and new historical knowledge (counterarchives.com).
