James C WilliamsI traded the corporate world for the classroom after the death of his 19-year-old son, Curt, who was killed by a drunk driver whileattending Birmingham Southern College. Six months later, my job of 23 years was eliminated. Fortunately, my new world sarted when thelocal United Way agency asked me to start speaking to students about gateway drugs. However, there was a much bigger challenge facingme. Many of the students were not engaging with me. I started having the students write letters telling me what school is really like. To my surprise, many of the students wanted to talk about verbal and social bullying. Within one year, the entire 90-minute assemblydealt with bullying behavior, with the older students coming down the front of the auditorium and speaking from their hearts. Most were bystanders who wanted to become a leader, but I also had victims asking their fellow students for help.During the next 16 years, I traveled the United States speaking to schools and school conferences, including the Association of Christian Schools International and the National Center for Youth Issues. For several of the 16 years, I worked for The Institute of Love and Logic. Jim Fay, the creator, stated, "Jim Williams can capture and hold audiences like no other." I wrote articles for school-related magazines and have been featured in a variety of television interviews, including the TBN show "Lifestyle Magazine."Much to my surprise, I became in demand to teach parenting programs. Abingdon Press honored me by asking me to write a book for them. Thus the birth of "Parenting on Point." Two years later, a video series, "ProActive Parenting," was published. Finally, in 2016 the video series on bullying, "Call Me Jim," was completed.My wife Carol and I now live in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
