Khalili Chair of Islamic Art and Archaeology at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (1990–2001), and is currently honorary curator of the Khalili Collection. He was reviously Deputy Keeper in the Department of Oriental Antiquities at the British Museum in charge of Islamic collections.
