Overton attended Princeton University from 1904 to 1906, where he laid the oundation for his future career in writing and literary criticism. He went on to become a fiction editor at Collier's magazine from 1924 to 1930, a position that allowed him to shape the literary landscape of his time. Overton was particularly known for his insightful critiques and his ability to analyze the works of notable American women novelists, highlighting their contributions to literature during a time when women's voices were gaining prominence. He wrote several books, including The Women Who Make Our Novels, a collection of literary sketches that explored the lives and works of influential female writers. His career was marked by a commitment to showcasing the evolving role of women in literature. Unfortunately, Overton s life was cut short when he died in Patchogue on July 4, 1930, at the age of 42.
