Gilbert Shaw
Father Gilbert Shaw (1886–1967) was a prolific author of versified prayers in a poetic style, which he described as ‘rhythmic prayers’. He was considered an important spiritual leader and teacher of prayer and published numerous short pamphlets abut the life of prayer. After some time working in depressed areas of the East End of London he became Warden of the Sisters of the Love of God in 1962, where he remained until his death at the Convent of the Incarnation in Oxford in 1967. He left a legacy for the establishment of the Press to publish his works and those of the sisters. A memoir and study of his spiritual leadership by Sister Susan SLG, Gilbert Shaw and the Community of the Sisters of the Love of God, was published by SLG Press in 2026.
