Gerd KanterDuring his career, Gerd Kanter won eleven medals at international championships, more than any other male discus thrower. Among those medals were gold at the 2007 World Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games. He was a three-time Athlete of the Yearin Estonia, and received the Order of the White Star in recognition of service rendered to his home country. Gerd still holds the unofficial indoor discus World Record of 69.51m. Since retiring in 2018, he has made a successful transition to coaching. Among his pupils have been Piotr Malachowski, Robert Urbanek, Gevin Genro Paas, and Moaaz Mohamed Ibrahim. Gerd guided the Slovenian Kristjan Čeh to a gold medal and Championships Record at the 2022 World Championships and was subsequently named Coach of the Year in Estonia. He also coached Kristjan Čeh to European and World Championships silver. Gerd lives in Tallinn with his wife Liina and their son Kristjan, He currently works as a Sports Director at Sortsclub Nord and was recently elected as Vice President of the Estonian Olympic Committee.
