Gene Markey

Gene MarkeyGene Markey is perhaps best remembered as a Hollywood producer and screenwriter, but before he landed in Hollywood, Markey was a Chicago-based caricaturist and short-story writer. Markey's caricatures illustrated the literary pages of various newspaprs and periodicals during the 1920s, including the Chicago Daily News and the New York Herald Tribune. Gene Markey was also a veteran of World War I and was later decorated for his naval service during World War II. After a series of Hollywood marriages (Joan Bennett, Hedy Lamaar, Myrna Loy), Markey married Lucille Parker Wright, the recently widowed owner of Calumet Farm, home of several prize-winning Kentucky thoroughbreds. Markey's fourth marriage was also a winner. The couple spent the rest of their lives together. Read More Read Less
