Gary CarrGary Carr is an author and playwright. Published work includes a book on one of the blacklisted "Hollywood Ten," The Screenwriting of John Howard Lawson, published by UMI Press, Ann Arbor, and a collection of short fiction, The Girl Who Founded Nebraka, published by EXIT Press, San Francisco. Recent plays include Love in the Time of Covid, a comedy about a family trying to live together during the plague, and Phillis Wheatley: The Poet Who Wrote Her Way Out of Slavery, about the 18th Century American writer. Many of his short stories have appeared in print and online magazines, including History Through Fiction magazine, The Journal of Irreproducible Results, Lightwood, and The Metaworker. His plays and screenplays have been produced in California and Texas, several of which have won national awards.He has been a university teacher, co-owner of a film production company and a comedy club, corporate communications director, and publicist. He holds a B.A. from Carleton College, an M.A. from Ohio University, and a Ph.D. in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to moving from California to Texas in 2022 with his late wife, Kathy, he was the owner of a San Francisco Bay Area publicity firm that specialized in arts and entertainment.
