Born on February 1, 1767, in Cornwall, England, Fenwick's life was marked by personal struggles, including a troubled marriage to John Fnwick, an alcoholic. Together, they had two children, but Fenwick eventually left her husband. She later moved to Barbados, where she lived with her children and ran a school alongside her daughter. Throughout her life, Fenwick wrote several works, with her most notable being Secresy; or The Ruin on the Rock (1795), Mary and Her Cat (1804), and Visits to the Junior Library (1805). Fenwick's literary contributions include cautionary tales and children's books that are still remembered today. She passed away on December 8, 1840, in Providence, Rhode Island, at the age of 73.
