Dumitru Staniloae

Dumitru Stăniloae (1903–1993) was a pre-eminent Romanian Orthodox theologian and a towering figure in 20th-century Eastern Christianity. A professor in Sibiu and Bucharest, he endured five years as a political prisoner under the communist regime. He is best known for his monumental achievement of translating the Philokalia into Romanian and his masterpiece, Orthodox Dogmatic Theology (1978), Orthodox Spirituality (1981), and The Holy Trinity (2005). His work masterfully synthesizes Patristic wisdom with modern existential concerns, focusing on the Trinity, the theology of love, and the presence of God in creation. He remains a primary bridge between Eastern Orthodox thought and Western theology.
