Dude LayneDude Layne was born in 1942 into a home with 5 brothers and 5 sisters and grew up in Dunlap, TN. He graduated from Sequatchie County High School in 1960 and retired in 1972. Dude gave his life to Jesus on April 27, 1984, and married his lovely wife, renda, that same year. One of his favorite Bible verses is John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."Though he had not always been interested in drawing and art, Dude had a drawing of one of the vintage motorcycles he had restored and wondered to himself if he could draw that bike. He picked up a pencil and some paper, started drawing, and never looked back. Since then, he has drawn over 500 pictures. Now, at age 83, he is an illustrator for a children's book. Dude enjoys using paint, felt pens, and watercolors, with his favorite subjects being old vintage barns.Dude also had the opportunity to be a baseball coach for 8 years, working with youth ages 6-16. While he has many accomplishments, the ones that stand out the most to him are the times he restored vintage cars and motorcycles. He created wood-grained dashboards and garnish moldings for these vehicles. One notable accomplishment was restoring Mr. McKee's 1928 Whippet Model car, which was used to start the Little Debbie Cakes business. In addition, Dude built a miniature working sawmill, putting over 2,000 hours into its creation. The sawmill runs, consisting of a steam engine, with a belt used to turn the blade for the sawmill that cuts. It truly works. He added people, animals, buildings for a town, a running waterfall, and a windmill. If Dude could offer any wisdom today, it would be to start by having a relationship with Jesus-believing in Him and asking Him to be your Savior.
