David S FlorigDAVID S. FLORIG lives in Ocean Park, Maine. He is a member of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance. Florig is past-president of the Pine Tree Curling Club in Portland, as well as a member of the Belfast Curling Club in Belfast, Maine. The Stonesof Ailsa Craig was his debut novel and paid homage to Belfast, Maine; the glorious Maine coast; and the ancient Scottish sport of curling. Set in present-day Belfast, Maine and 1880s Scotland, the novel takes a sometimes dark look into one man's loss, loneliness, obsession, and quest for vengeance. Rich in curling and Maine history, The Stones of Ailsa Craig is a work of historical fiction and was named Best Historical Fiction of 2023 by Indies Today. It was also a 2023 Finalist for the American Writing Awards. The Shattered Curling Stone, published in 2024, follows the allegorical story of Ailsa MacLaren, a Scottish girl who takes to the ice in the 1880s at age twelve to learn the game of curling from her father. Along the way, she encounters roadblocks and setbacks as she continues to grow and excel at "the manly Scottish exercise," including one particularly unexpected, dangerous, obstacle. The Shattered Curling Stone pays tribute to brave, fearless women who dare to go where they're told they shouldn't.In 2023, Florig organized and led a group of ninety Maine authors as Maine Authors for Lewiston, who raised money to support victims and families of the tragic events in Lewiston on October 25th.David grew up and lived in South Jersey before retiring to Maine, where he lives with his wife, Nancy, and their rescue dog, Lily Munster. Adopted as an infant by Charles and Marjorie Florig for $130, he has seen just a single, black-and white picture of his birth mother. For years, David practiced law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Following his legal career, he served as the Executive Director of two nonprofits - Court Appointed Special Advocates of Burlington County (New Jersey) and the West Philadelphia Alliance for Children. WePAC utilized volunteers to open shuttered elementary school libraries in Philadelphia, and for his work on behalf of Philadelphia's children, he was honored as one of the inaugural GameChangers by KYW Newsradio in celebration of Black History Month.
