He raises Karakachan livestock guardian dogs and American fainting goats at Beechkeld Farm in Virginia. He serves as technical program director for The Livestock Conservancy. He has been bestowed the rare appointment of Honorary Member of the American College of Theriogenologists, and is a Professor of Pathology and Genetics at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia.
