Curtis Michael GirtyCurtis Michael Girty is a native Detroiter and the youngest of five boys, whose mother suddenly passed away when he was 3 years old. During his formative years Curtis had some adjustment difficulties which eventually led him to using alcohol and drug as a means to escape at the tender age of 12. He remained actively addicted for 18 years. At age 30 he entered a rehab program where he learned to deal with the hurdles in his life and he has remained alcohol and drug free over 30 years! His inspiration to write began in 1996 and evolved into his first book, "Ebony Pearls of Wisdom" which is a poetry book he self-published in 2003, inspired by his life experiences. His second and current book, "Portrait of a Troubled Child" is his memoir in which he openly shares the story of his troubled youth and his poor life choices, leading him to the lowest point of his life. He credits his faith in God as having guided him in his recovery. In addition to writing Curtis enjoys bowling, billiards, scratch baking and collecting movies and music. More than anything he enjoys the ability God has given him to connect with and influence young people. He has been involved in several mentoring groups within the community and at his church.
