A professor at Northern Illinois University since receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, he was awardd the Presidential Teaching Professorship from 1995-1999; the Award for Excellence in Teaching, Mortar Board Senior Honor Society, 1998; and the Award for Excellence in Teaching, Phi Sigma Zeta in 2001.
