C. M. KornbluthCyril M. Kornbluth (July 2, 1923 – March 21, 1958) was a Futurians member and American science fiction novelist. Cecil Corwin, S. D. Gottesman, Edward J. Bellin, Kenneth Falconer, Walter C. Davies, Simon Eisner, Jordan Park, Arthur Cooke, Paul DennisLavond, and Scott Mariner were some of his pen names. Kornbluth was born and raised in New York City's uptown Manhattan neighborhood of Inwood. He was of Polish Jewish heritage, the son of a World War I veteran and the grandson of a Jewish Galician immigrant tailor. Kornbluth's middle name, Mary Byers, may have inspired the "M" in his name; Kornbluth's colleague and coauthor Frederik Pohl confirmed Kornbluth's lack of a middle name in at least one interview. Kornbluth was a "precocious child," according to his widow, learning to read at the age of three and creating his own stories by the age of seven.
