Billie JBillie J. is a Somali-born poet, writer, and storyteller who sought refuge in London after fleeing civil war with their family. Despite the challenges of adapting to a new culture, dealing with learning difficulties, and facing racism, Billie discoveed a love for poetry in English classes, drawing inspiration from writers like William Alford, Maya Angelou, and William Shakespeare. However, it wasn't until her late twenties that Billie fully learned to read and write effectively, and at 33, she was diagnosed with autism-a realisation that brought clarity to her experiences. Since arriving in England, Billie has not travelled physically, but her imagination allows them to explore vast landscapes within their mind. As a "nomadic wordsmith," Billie's work blends lyrical beauty with deep introspection, crafting poetry that balances the external world with their inner reflections. Billie uses rich metaphors and alliteration to create emotional landscapes that invite readers to journey with them, offering a mirror to their lives and a window into universal truths. Her poetry often explores themes of love, relationships, sensuality, and existentialism, mixing lightness with hints of darkness. Billie is also part of @saba_poetry_prompts, where she and three other creative writers collaborate to create engaging prompts. Billie has a child and a couple of cats who bring joy and comfort to their home. You can follow Billie's creative journey on Instagram at @nomadic_wordsmith_billie and @saba_poetry_prompts.
