Benjamin LaChapelleBenjamin Lachapelle, who calls himself an "Animal Knower," is a Canadian autistic artist and author-illustrator of children's books from the Laurentians of Quebec. Benjamin is passionate about all animals and has been since he was a young child. He daws, paints, sculpts, illustrates and writes stories about animals from his unique perspective. Benjamin's work has been commissioned by McGill University, Inspirations Newspaper, English Montreal School Board, Fondation Autisme de Laurentides and many other community organizations. He was a featured artist at the 2019 and 2021 Autism Festival and has exhibited his paintings and sculptures in numerous events. Benjamin began writing stories about animals in elementary school with the help of supportive and caring teachers and educational aides. They encouraged Benjamin's love for animals and storytelling and since then, he has not stopped creating. Writing stories is one of Benjamin's ways of managing strong emotions on many issues. His themes range from lighthearted stories to ones with deeper meaning. The common thread in all Benjamin's stories and whimsical illustrations is his love for animals. His mission is to make the world more caring towards animals and a kinder place for everyone (especially those who are different).
