Audrey ShepherdAudrey was born in 1928 to a working-class family in Montreal. Married at nineteen to her husband, Roy Shepherd, she spent the next several years raising a family of three children and taking part in church and community life. Her interest in the womn's movement led to appointment by the federal government to its Advisory Council on the Status of Women and from there her life changed. In addition to championing the cause of women in Canada, she was active in concern for the world's children and spent the next ten years working for a children's charity. This work took her to Africa, Asia and the Caribbean initiating, monitoring and evaluating feeding and education projects in partnership with local churches. For her work in these and other spheres, Audrey was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Gold and Platinum Medals.Now, at the age of 98, this political activist, wife approaching 80 years of marriage and great-grandmother has sat down long enough to write this book for those who come after her.
