Philpotts is Emeritus Professor of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Connecticut, a visiting fellow at Yale University, and an adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts. He has over forty years of teaching experience. e has worked on Precambrian massif-type anorthosites, pseudotachylites, alkaline rocks, and liquid immiscibility in FeTi oxide systems and in tholeiitic magmas. He has been awarded the Peacock Memorial Prize of the Walker Mineralogical Club of Toronto and the Hawley Award of the Mineralogical Association of Canada.
