Andrew GordonAndrew J. Gordon, associate professor at the University of Houston, is an applied cultural anthropologist. His work in Belize includes directing an ethnographic field school that started in 2003, following earlier applied work in the country on the revention of dengue fever. In addition to a PhD in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin, the author holds a master's degree in public health. Combining his expertise in these two areas, he has spent considerable time both in conducting ethnographic research in West Africa and the Dominican Republic and in consulting about problems related to health and development for the United States Agency for International Development, the Pan American Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control, and The World Bank.
