Albert Scales
Dr. Albert Scales III is an African American Southern Gothic author, licensed therapist, and Marine and Coast Guard veteran whose fiction explores ancestral memory, folklore, spirituality, healing, and the quiet presence of what lingers across genrations.
Drawing inspiration from African American oral traditions, the spiritual landscapes of the Carolinas and the Gullah Geechee Lowcountry, and the layered cultural memory carried through Black communities, his novels blend atmospheric literary fiction, Southern Gothic storytelling, and reflective explorations of history, family, and the unseen.
His stories are slow, immersive, and emotionally grounded - centered on old houses, forgotten roads, inherited grief, sacred memory, and the enduring voices of the past that continue shaping the present.
Dr. Scales is the creator of Roots & Haints, an African American Southern Gothic storytelling publication exploring memory, folklore, spirituality, and cultural remembrance through fiction, reflections, and podcasts.
He is the author of the Haunts of Willow's Crossing series, The Ashwater Trilogy, and The Memory Worker series.
