Alan GouldAlan Gould was born in London in 1949 of English-Icelandic parents and lived on armed forces camps in England, Northern Ireland, Germany and Singapore before corning to Australia in 1966. He has an arts degree from the Australian National University nd a Diploma of Education from the Canberra College of Advanced Education. He has held short-term jobs, such as a nuclear physics technician and as an agricultural and builder's labourer. Since 1973 he has written poetry and fiction, augmenting his income with literary journalism and relief teaching. He has held several fellowships from the Australia Council and has been a writer in residence at the Australian National University, Geelong College, the Australian Defence Force Academy, Lincoln and Humberside Arts, Brisbane Church of England Grammar School and Brisbane Grammar School. In 1986 he was the Australian Representative at the International Poetry Festival in Manila, and in 1988 at the International Poetry Festival at Struga, Macedonia. Alan Gould has published eight previous fiction titles, thirteen poetry titles and two collections of essays. Between 2002 and 2006 he was a member of the Literature Board of the Australia Council.
