Aja McKeeDr. Aja McKee has spent over two decades working with young children, families, and educators to create inclusive learning environments. Beginning her career as a general education preschool teacher and then an early childhood special educator, she tught in Head Start, inclusive preschool programs, and a myriad of district special education programs across Southern California. With expertise in child development and disability inclusion, Dr. McKee has always centered the voices of young children, especially those with disabilities, in her work. Now a professor of special education and the proud author of children's books that celebrate inclusivity, accessibility, and belonging, Dr. McKee draws inspiration from her years of singing songs, reading stories, and building trusting relationships with preschoolers and working with their families. Her books reflect her lifelong passion for honoring each child's unique strengths, communication styles, and family stories. Whether she's researching inclusive education practices or writing about a lovable chocolate Lab puppy named Lucy, Dr. McKee is guided by one belief: every child deserves to feel seen, safe, and loved.
