About the Book

These proceedings deal with floating structures and offshore operations in relation to the exploration, exploitation and transportation of offshore oil and gas resources and all associated construction and installation activities. The papers provide an up-to-date review of current developments in the field of floating production systems, and present the state-of-the-art of design methods for floating systems, mooring and positioning. The book achieves a good balance between the viewpoints of industry and research/academia, and will thus interest various groups of readers: technical managers of oil companies and offshore contractors, design firms and consultants in the offshore industry, constructors of offshore structures, research institutes, and technical universities

Table of Contents:
Session I. Exploration. Dry transportation of large semi-submersible units (F. van Hoorn, R.P. Dallinga). Do calculations and model tests really provide insight into the hydrodynamic design aspects of semi-submersibles? (J.A. van Santen). A control device for stabilizing a semi-submersible platform with a large list angle in waves (M. Takaki et al.). II. Construction and Operation. Keynote Address: Computer support from conceptual design to platform removal (J.E. Holmes). Determination of hydrodynamic loads for the strength- and fatigue analysis of semi-submersible platforms (S.A.W. Janse). Motions and forces during heavy lift operations offshore (H.J.J. van den Boom et al.). Design and construction of a semi-submersible workover vessel ``Amethyst'' (B. von Ubisch et al.). Operational performance of supply vessels (R.P. Dallinga et al.). III. Floating Production / Storage / Offloading. Keynote Address: Status and trends in design of floating production systems (H. Sannum, T. Naess). The effect of Hawser elasticity on SPM mooring loads (J.F. Flory et al.). Theoretical and experimental investigation of the low frequency motions of a single anchor leg moored buoy and tanker (W.J. Brendling, D. Wilson). The prediction of the behaviour of single point moored tankers (J.E.W.Wichers). Turret moorings for tanker based FPSO's (W.C. de Boom). Further developments on permanent mooring systems (R. Uittenbogaard, F. Lange). Permanent single point moorings: design loads and related problems (A. Pittaluga). UKOLS: Ugland Kongsberg Offshore Loading System (K.R. Mork). Simulation of DP vessels by model tests or computations (U. Nienhuis et al.). Wave drift damping characteristics of different offshore structures (G.E. Hearn, K.C. Tong). On the determination of the statistical properties of the behaviour of moored tankers (J.A. Pinkster). Comparative evaluation of numerical methods for non-linear riser problems (K. Kokkinowrachos et al.). Progress in the prediction of forces on cylinders (J.J.W. van der Vegt, F. van Walree). Determination of critical wave sequences for moored floating structures (H. Gravesen, P. Klinting).
