In practice, architects, planners, builders, contractors and other practitioners in the built environment field go about their business as if their work existed apart from each other and society. Until recently, architects, designers and planners have learned the tools of their trade within specifically constructed professional boundaries. But this is changing. The demands of today's market for property development and site planning necessitate communication - and even shared knowledge - between the professions. This need is being met by new professional and academic courses which aim to teach students in a more synthetic manner. This book aims to provide the student with a step-by-step guide to the building of our environment, from analysis to design to production.
