Data Mining: Data, Text and Web Mining and Their Business Applications

During this last year we have witnessed the growth of the European Union's interest for data mining, especially when applied to unstructured data (eg. text mining). This is the proof that data mining is surely seen not only as an exciting research area but also as a technology that may solve current European citizens' delicate problems such as security. But the interest and appreciation of the European Union is also shown through the 2007 European ICT Prize that this year has been awarded for the first time to a text mining company.With papers presented at the eighth International Conference on Data Mining, this volume contains intriguing areas of research including: categorisation methods, data preparation, enterprise information systems, mining environmental and geospatial data, text mining, applications in business, industry and government, customer relationship management, and national security.
