About the Book

Modern engineering design has led to the realization of the importance of contact problems in many technological fields. Including discussions of mechanical models, numerical aspects, experimental measurements and engineering applications as well as other topics related to the subject, this volume features the proceedings of the Sixth International Conference on Computational Methods and Experimental Measurements in Contact Mechanics. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of advanced theories, while the contributors have also been encouraged to critically review existing ideas and to explore new research ideas. Topics covered include: multi-boundary contact; extrusion and forming process; composite materials; soil structure interaction; computational methods; crashworthiness, impact and shock; biomechanics; experimental techniques; computational methods versus experimental results; and fracture, fatigue and wear.

Table of Contents:
Section 1 Computational Methods: The effect of ground replacement on control of underground vibrations and differential settlement of structures; A scheme of boundary element method for moving contact of 3D elastic solids; Analysis of contact pressure between a thermal print head and ink of a thermal transfer printer; A boundary element-mathematical programming method for solving elastoplastic contact problems; Stationary damage concept for porroelastic contact mechanics; A reduced elastic friction model for complicated surfaces; Some problems of bridge contact analysis using MARC; On the formulation of thermo-mechanical contact for casting analysis; Computational method for interaction between rigid indenter and elastic inclusion; Numerical modelling: the contact problem of movable elasto/visco-plastic body. Section 2 Experimental Results and Computational Methods: of crushed center bevel cutter indentation to aluminum sheet; Study of wear damage resistance of gears using laser surface treatment and microstructural simulation; Investigation of thermal effects and the role of local abrasion in rubber friction processes; Analysis of superplastic forming process in a circular closed- Finite element simulation of orthogonal metal cutting; Effect of sheet thickness and friction on load characteristic die; Fixing the spatial photoelastic-photoplastic effect by ionising irradiation applied to contact problems. Section 3 Fracture, Fatigue and Wear: Fretting wear and fretting fatigue process at the contact edge; Statistical characterization of the asperities of real surfaces; Application of a hybrid approach for wear prediction of true tools for hot forging; The application of image processing techniques in the tool wear estimation; Brittle rock behaviour within high-pressure condition.
