About the Book

Burnout in education is no longer a matter of anecdote.

The emotional and psychological demands of education are not incidental features of the role; they are central to it. Educators are being asked to perform multiple tasks and handle demanding workloads without the skills needed to manage the stress and fatigue that come with the work.

Research continues to show that the key to avoiding burnout and sustaining long-term impact rests on a particular skill set:

  • The ability to recognize and regulate emotions
  • The art of navigating relationships effectively
  • Maintaining clarity under pressure
  • Staying connected to purpose

This resource was developed to precisely target and develop those skills.

The Transformational Tools for Educators Workbook provides thirteen research-based tools designed to develop core skills that significantly reduce the stress that leads to burnout. Through interactive content and hands-on activities, readers move from understanding to direct application. Educators will recognize emotional patterns, regulate stress responses, strengthen internal motivation, improve empathy, and communicate with greater clarity across roles and settings. Activities are designed to apply research-supported strategies in busy classrooms, leadership roles, support positions, professional learning communities, and school-based teams.

The Workbook opens with the Educator Energy and Recovery Check (EERC), a baseline burnout inventory designed to be repeated at three and six months so that progress is documented, not assumed. Inside, you will find thirteen high-impact tools and techniques proven to build skills that can effectively manage stress and build resilience. Each tool comes with self-assessments, targeted practice exercises, and reflective prompts.

The Transformational Tools for Educators Workbook is designed to stand on its own or to complement Transformational Tools for Special Educators (Corwin, 2026). It is well-suited for individual study, professional learning communities, new teacher induction, educational leadership development, education seminars, and university coursework.

The Workbook is authored by Katrina G. Huels, M.Ed., a former special education leader and educational consultant with more than twenty years of classroom and district experience. Katrina's Applied Harmony initiative makes a single argument: emotional intelligence is not merely a wellness trend. It is a core professional competency that can be developed to increase job satisfaction, staff retention, productive collaboration, and resilience. Katrina is the author of Transformational Tools for Special Educators (Corwin, 2026) and The Motivation Toolkit (Applied Harmony, 2025).

Review :

"Katrina's writing reflects a deep understanding of how neuroscience, emotional intelligence, and professional practice intersect to create meaningful, lasting change that elevates how people live, work, and relate to others."
