About the Book

Heather Moore was "living the dream" in sunny California until her father's death catapulted her back home to Michigan, where she faced an impossible choice. Either settle her dad's chaotic estate and support her schizophrenic-but unmedicated-mother, or walk away. Caught between her desire to be a loyal daughter and her anger and frustration over her mother's bizarre and occasionally abusive behavior, Heather became a reluctant advocate for her family.

Join Heather as she shares her gut-wrenching, heart-opening story of what it took to wade through the havoc while wrought by grief, exhaustion, and the exasperation of the legal system to find peace within the complexity of love for and life with a family member with schizophrenia.

Trusting Resilience is a must-read for anyone who seeks to resolve the absurdity that rattles around inside the bucket we have labeled "mental illness." Heather's story is gritty, real, and threaded with hope.

About the Author :
Heather Moore has dedicated decades of her life to restoring the physical and emotional landscapes of wellness, having practiced as both a licensed acupuncturist and a functional medicine practitioner-among numerous other qualifications. Having lived much of her life in coastal California, Heather's life underscores the metaphorical nexus between the fluidity of the energetic world and the physical reality of the land on which we stand. A tireless advocate for helping people enhance their vitality, Heather has degrees in Cell Biology and Chinese Medicine. Her compelling first book, Trusting Resilience: Schizophrenia, Family, and the Journey to Love, shares the story of her harrowing relationship with her schizophrenic mother and the heart-wrenching commitment they both made, despite the odds, to letting love win.

Review :

"Gritty, raw and authentically emotional, this book will shatter your heart and then leave it open, softened, and hopeful. It is an honest portrayal of mental illness and its ripple effects through a family, and a testament to a daughter's brave decision to break old patterns, seek help, and trust her higher power in the wake of her father's death." -Michelle M. Olsen, CPCC, MA, Career & Life Coach

"Trusting Resilience is a powerful story of a daughter's love and determination in finding support and treatment for her mother battling schizophrenia. Navigating mountains of paperwork, jumping through legal hoops and waiting for hours on hold, Ms. Moore exemplifies fierce grit and gentle forgiveness reminding us that though imperfect, family is worth fighting for!" -Stacey Burdette, LLPC, Stacey Burdette Counseling

"In this moving story about mental health and its impact on family, Heather and Susan embark on a journey of courage, trust, resilience, strength, pain, healing, surrender, discovery, transformation, and love. Inspiring and heartbreaking at times, I felt moved by the author's internal struggles and the very heavy burden of ancestral and family karma she carried, as she desperately tried to help her undiagnosed mentally ill mother, navigating many obstacles with minimal support, through a failed and cruel system that needs to change. It's a story of forgiveness and miracles, and I highly recommend this book." -Soreliz Ascanio, LCSW, MA, Children's Hospital Oakland, California
