About the Book

"How can I be my authentic self at work? Can I wear braids? Should I cut my dreads or leave them tied back?" "How can I find a mentor when I'm the only one who looks like me?" "Why does it feel like I'm working twice as hard without recognition? Have I stayed too long?"These are questions many African American professionals ponder while advancing in their careers. Unlocking Potential: Tips, Insights, and Strategies for Young Black Professionals helps the reader navigate their professional and personal lives. It is intended to serve as a guide to prevent younger professionals from repeating the pitfalls of previous generations. It contains practical tips, quotes, and examples to enhance your career and show how these concepts apply in practice.

About the Author :
Anthony (Tony) W. Scott, Esq. has decades of leadership and management experience derived from his expansive career within private industry, public interest, government, and as an entrepreneur. His leadership journey began during his tour with the United States Marine Corps where he served during Operations Desert Storm & Desert Shield. Tony is a first generation college graduate, who then obtained his Masters Degree in Public Administration and then his Juris Doctorate. A true open book, Tony will candidly share the missteps and mistakes he has made along his journey, so you can avoid them. His philosophy of "not hiding the ball" is what prompted him to create I.S.I. Consulting, LLC. He manages himself, his career and his clients by the Mantra "Build Solutions Today, Avoid Pitfalls Tomorrow."

Review :
I had the pleasure of reading Unlocking Potential by Mr. Tony Scott, and I was truly impressed by the text. Mr. Scott has created a blueprint to support young minority scholars in their journey through higher education and beyond. His insights provide practical advice for students as they navigate life, education, and the workforce. What stood out to me the most was his use of real-world examples to reinforce his guidance. By incorporating personal experiences from his own path to becoming a lawyer, he adds authenticity and relatability to the book. He openly shares both his successes and challenges, allowing readers to learn from his triumphs and missteps. The inclusion of real names and situations gives the text a sense of realism that will be especially beneficial to young readers. One aspect of the book that I truly appreciate is how Mr. Scott openly discusses mental health-a topic that is often overlooked and, unfortunately, sometimes seen as a sign of weakness. This is surely something our young people need to hear. He even shares his own experiences with mental health and emphasizes the importance of addressing and taking care of one's mental well-being. This level of openness is both refreshing and necessary, especially for young scholars who may struggle with similar challenges. As an educator with over 25 years of experience, I can see how this book would be invaluable for young people. It offers lessons that are not often explicitly taught but are crucial for success in both school and the workforce. I personally wish I had something like this during my own journey.I highly recommend Unlocking Potential to high school upperclassmen and college students as they prepare for their next steps. While each individual will make their own choices, this book provides essential insights that can make their path smoother. Additionally, as a man of color, I appreciate how Mr. Scott offers guidance specifically relevant to young scholars of color striving to excel.I will be recommending this book to the students I lead daily in my role as a high school principal. It is a must-read for those looking to unlock their full potential.Dr. Ryan C. DurrPrincipalMeade High SchoolAn I.B. School
