About the Book

Georgia's Pop Pop has always been her hero.

Now Pop Pop has dementia, and though their relationship looks a little different, it is no less special. In this beautifully illustrated and intentionally written picture book, readers will join Georgia as she spends a cozy, wintry day at her Pop Pop's memory care home. Together, they create new memories while reliving some of their favorite moments-from eating jelly donuts and telling jokes to playing basketball and dancing to Pop Pop's favorite '50s songs. But when Pop Pop forgets something important, Georgia realizes it may be time for her to become a hero, too.

Written by the award-winning author of Love Sounds Like, Hannah Jessen Conway's newest book offers a thoughtful and child-friendly approach to help families navigate conversations about dementia, Alzheimer's, and other forms of memory loss with care and compassion. Offering encouragement to caregivers and children alike, this heartfelt and hope-filled tale honors the past, embraces the present, and reminds readers that love is even stronger than memory.

Perfect for:

  • Children navigating a loved one's dementia or Alzheimer's diagnosis
  • Families, caregivers, and educators seeking age-appropriate conversation starters
  • People seeking grandparent-grandchild stories centered on love and connection

Why families love this book:

  • Inspired by the author's real experience navigating dementia with her grandfather, this book offers an authentic look at life in a memory care home through a child's eyes.
  • This book gently explains dementia while placing greater emphasis on the enduring bond between granddaughter and grandfather, showing that meaningful connections and new memories are always possible.
  • It includes thoughtful discussion questions and activities located at the back of the book to help caregivers and educators guide age-appropriate conversations about dementia.
  • Plus, the book encourages reflection by featuring a special final page that invites children to write down a favorite memory with someone they love!

About the Author :

When she's not dreaming up her next story at a coffee shop, Hannah can be found cheering on the Tar Heels with her college sweetheart, wrangling her two wild and wonderful boys, or escaping to the North Carolina coast. She and her family live in Raleigh, NC, with their mischievous rescue mutt.
