About the Book

Validation: This book brings you a very relevant story in today's world. With more and more cross-cultural marriages happening, our mixed-ethnic children need to know that there are others like them and that they do belong right where they are. Islamic-inspired life lessons: Islam promotes inclusion and diversity. These ideals served as inspiration for "From Here and There." They demonstrate that just because people come from various backgrounds, it doesn't preclude them from getting along and understanding one another. We should be proud of our diversity since it was part of Allah's will; this is something to celebrate. Every individual has a unique worth and place in both the world and in God's eyes. Fun and Sweet: This story conveys important messages through rhymes and funny and sweet situations while remaining light and enjoyable. This family will steal your heart and leave you speechless with their love and companionship. It also promotes a sense of pride, self-love, and confidence.

About the Author :
Having four multiethnic children of her own, Larissa Olinda spends her days living through the blessings (and challenges) of having a multicultural family. Larissa was born and raised in Brazil. During her late teens, she moved to the United States, where she lived for eight years while acquiring her education. The author then relocated to Saudi Arabia, where she has joyfully lived until the present day. All these different experiences gave Larissa a window into the beauty and trials of living in different cultures. Through her writing, she aims to give children globally a sense of belonging as mixed-ethnic and multicultural individuals.

Review :
"As a mother to a multicultural child and a librarian at an international school, this book was absolutely adorable. It was very interesting to see each culture represented in a way that is easy for all to understand. Most importantly it demonstrates the need to care for and accept others as well as love and appreciate yourself." - Terea (international school librarian) "I thoroughly enjoyed this story of the experiences a multicultural child faces. As a mother of 4 wonderfully "mixed" children, I find that this story put my children's life into perspective. Coming from 2 very different cultures, much like the character in the story, my children learned to tolerate and love all sorts of different cultures. I would like to thank the author for putting the lives of so many into a lively and colorful book, I'm sure my grandchildren will enjoy reading this book also." - Misty Berry (school coordinator) "God. Where do I begin? As a mixed kid myself, I would've appreciated this story so much as a child. By the end of it, I ended up tearing up! It's a beautiful story about self love and acceptance, and the Quranic verse at the end was a perfect cherry on top. As kids, we might resent our halves. We might get bullied for it. But there is beauty in cultures, and there is beauty in mine. I am proud of who I am. I hope every mixed child out there is able to find comfort in their roots. The illustrations were gorgeous!" - Laya Khan "From Here and There is a beautifully illustrated picture book that is a true testament to diversity and multiculturalism in Islam. I wish this book had been around when my children were younger. They grew up as expats, not quite fitting in here or there, and never being able to fully articulate an answer to "where are you from?" This is a question that the author tackles with wisdom and finesse, as a mother of four multi-cultural children. Definitely a must-read for all children, Muslim or not, to realize that we are not all necessarily "from" one place, but a mix of experiences and cultures." - Adeeba Jafri" "Beautifully written, the book brings interesting knowledge and curiosities about two rich cultures and how they coexist in one family united by love. Love it and highly recommend it to all intercultural families and everyone interested in knowing more about it. My son loved it due to the clear accessible language and catchy design/illustrations." - Flavia Martinelli
