About the Book

"Thoughtful, moving and very funny sonnets. I enjoyed them immensely". - Alan Arkin, Author & Oscar winning actor "Unique and charming and frankly should be in every high school Shakespeare class." - John Kenney, New York Times bestselling author. If Shakespeare was a lady... Sonnets from Suburbia features Lady Penelope (aka actress Penny Peyser) serving up a funny take on modern day life in Shakespearean sonnet form. From the foibles of friendship, to romantic relationships gone awry, to aging bodies that misbehave, to the woes of social media and confounding familial tussles, she has the uncanny ability to make us smile out loud and chuckle with recognition. This is definitely one of those books for when you need a good laugh. The clever, compassionate sonnets inside this book make a perfect gift for birthdays, anniversaries and Valentine's Day and are sure to delight women over 40 and the men who love them. Think Shakespeare at the mall. For fans of Judith Viorst, Amy Sedaris, Dorothy Parker, Billy Collins and John Kenney - Sonnets from Suburbia is long-time actress Penny Peyser's first book.

Review :
"Thoughtful, moving and very funny sonnets. I enjoyed them immensely". - Alan Arkin, Author & Oscar winning actor "Unique and charming and frankly should be in every high school Shakespeare class." - John Kenney, New York Times bestselling author. Reader Reviews: "This book by Ms. Peyser just made my heart do a little happy dance." "This book is a lighthearted gem. Peyser seamlessly combines wit, humor, and insightful commentary on many issues we face in life. Full of very funny sonnets, with some that are surprisingly moving. I find myself picking it up again even after finishing it. Also makes a great unexpected gift." "These gems are a gold mine of wit, pith, wisdom, humor, satire, social commentary, and sheer comic virtuosity. Penny Peyser is a seriously gifted writer, (and thinker!), and luckily for us, she's turned her skills to the demanding format of sonnets." "A breezy and witty read. Penny's sonnets cover a wide swath of American culture, from marriage to birthdays, exes, pets, yoga, aging, sex (or lack thereof), parenthood, technology, mortality, and more." "Brighten someone's day and show them how much you appreciate being invited over by presenting this delightful book of clever sonnets as a hostess gift. I read one each night before bed and I swear that's why I've been having sweet dreams."
