About the Author :
Alfred Michiels ist sowohl Kunst- und Literaturkritiker als auch Journalist und ein auf die deutsche und flämische Malerei spezialisierter Kunsthistoriker. Er publizierte in verschiedenen Zeitschriften, unter anderem in Le Temps, La Réforme, Le Siècle, Le National, in der Revue indépendante, in der Revue de Paris und in der Revue britannique. Er verfasste aber auch Dramen und Romane sowie Reiseberichte. Darüber hinaus fungierte er als Herausgeber von literarischen Werken, so etwa für das poetische Werk von Philippe Desportes oder das Gesamtwerk von Jean-François Regnard mit einer theoretischen Einleitung über die theatralische Komik. Seine Geschichte der flämischen Malerei ist bis zum heutigen Tag eine der vollständigsten Veröffentlichungen auf diesem Gebiet geblieben. Das vorliegende Buch zu Hans Memling bietet eine großartige Einführung in die Kunst des Meisters sowie in den historischen und soziokulturellen flämischen Kontext.
