About the Book

Dr. Rout Logger, a fictional management professor and consultant, secures funding for a unique democratic dialogue experiment held monthly in rotating U.S. cities from October 2019 to March 2020. Each session gathers forty randomly selected, demographically diverse citizens to engage in rational, Adult ego state discussions about global human challenges.Meetings begin with a copper rooster spinner, "the Truther rooster," which randomly designates a "Leader of the Moment" to answer three existential questions: the most serious current problem, possible alternatives, and their recommended solution. Participants are paid $5,000 per session and meet for two three-hour segments each Saturday. The story explores interpersonal dynamics, psychological adjustments, and philosophical debates among participants, with Rout guiding the process using transactional analysis concepts. Though initially planned for a year, the experiment ended early due to Covid-19. Convinced of its success in increasing participants' "OKness," Rout and his donors begin developing a Zoom-based, game-free democratic system for global use.

About the Author :
RICHARD JOHN STAPLETON, PhD, CTA, retired in 2005 as Senior Professor of Management at Georgia Southern University. He joined the faculty in 1970 and, in 1978, invented the Classroom De Gamer(TM), a pioneering tool that used a spinner to select students to lead case discussions randomly. His innovative method emphasized democratic, Adult to Adult dialogue and minimized psychological "Games" in the classroom.Stapleton's teaching drew on the case method tradition he learned from Harvard trained colleagues Bernard Bienvenu and Rexford Hauser. He published extensively in refereed journals and books, beginning with his landmark 1978 article The Classroom De Gamer in the Transactional Analysis Journal. His work integrated transactional analysis into management education, promoting an "I'm OK-You're OK" approach to learning. He studied transactional analysis with Martin Groder, MD; Graham Barnes, PhD; Vann Joines, PhD; and others at the Southeast Institute in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He holds degrees in economics, organizational behavior, and management science from Texas Tech University, along with certification in transactional analysis from the International Transactional Analysis Association. After retirement, Richard and his wife, Debbye, founded Effective Learning Company, Stapleton Learning Company, and Effective Learning Publications in Statesboro, Georgia. Debbye, recognized as the city's top math tutor, continues to teach weekly. Richard edits the Effective Learning Report and has authored four books and numerous articles online at www.effectivelearning.net.
