About the Author :
I am Tom Boxleiter, a retired psychiatrist with many years of experience and many colleagues who have provided inspiration for fiction. Of course, I don't reference any actual patients or case information in my fiction. I hope that my ability to give some insight into how a modern psychiatrist plies his trade and the fact that he has the same human foibles as everyone else, may be of interest to readers. I have written for years and have published two novesl, "Boundary Issues" and the sequel "Storm Damage". Also, I have gotten recognition in an international one act playwriting contest, DBQOneActs, with the submission of five plays.
Review :
this book is a page turner, very difficult to put down, and creates a spell that erased a Saturday -- when I should have been doing other things -- with the serial excuse that I'd "just read another chapter or so" and save the rest for later. The protagonist, Dr. Hank Pressman, is also a person of serial excuses about his behavior and his life, working through myriad problems into which he often has startlingly good insight, but rarely the good judgment to walk away, or seemingly the capacity to take the good advice that he's given (and sometimes pays for). I highly recommend it, but respectfully suggest that you not begin reading on a day you can't afford to devote to just finishing the book.
A guilt ridden psychiatrist, Dr. Pressman, needs to come to terms with his past treatment of his dead wife. He is pulled into a web of deceit from a young woman that reminds him of his dead wife. Tom Boxleiter takes us on a page turning journey where Dr. Pressman does things completely out of character for him. Dr. Pressman finds himself struggling between ethics, the truth and blackmail. What will he do?
Tom Boxleiter knows his material and spins a believable tale of intrigue!
A small town, a guilt ridden psychiatrist and a needy young patient create a story of interior twists and turns that is both mesmerizing and soul searching. The author obviously knows his subject matter and both professional and personal boundaries. I particularly enjoyed the character studies and relationships and details of the protagonists daily life and decisions. While the reader sees the "red flags" of the boundary issues, the story weaves the doctor's growth and awareness with an interesting murder investigation. Highly recommend.
Boundary Issues is a great read, I am excited to see the next book by Tom Boxleiter. I couldn't put the book down, it had great twist and turns and even brought a tear to my eyes.
I really enjoyed this book! It was full of unexpected plot twists and character developments. I finished wanting more but also very satisfied with where all the characters ended up.Don't miss Boundary Issues!
This novel is definitely a winner. Tom Boxleiter crafts an intriguing and suspenseful story, captivating characters, and an over-all great read! I'm looking forward to more Boxleiter to come.
I'm amazed this is the author's first book, at least the first book that he's published. The story has all the qualities you'd expect from a psychological thriller, but in some ways it breaks or at least stretches the norms. It's a bit longer than a typical thriller, yet I never felt as though it was bogging down, always eager to keep reading and figure out where the story was going. There were surprises, as things the typical reader thinks they understand turn out to not be reality. Hank, the protagonist, spends a lot of time considering his life thus far, recognizing and coming to terms with mistakes he's made, and trying to change his life direction where it makes sense. The changes and struggles Hank went through were a major part of the story and a bit atypical of a thriller.
