About the Book

This is a complete guide to pentatonic scales, explaining how to create them and how to use them for improvisation and composition. Many different pentatonic scales are considered - Major, Minor, HIrajoshi, Blues, etc., each with a list of possible harmonizations. The book includes a chart of the pentatonics in each mode of the Major and Melodic Minor scales. Numerous exercises are presented so that you can build your technique and improve our concept at the same time. These include in 3, 4, 5 and 6 note groups, sus4 triads. The group includes sections on pentatonic chords, bitonal pentatonics, pentatonic bass lines (ostinato), II V/ I's, and harmonic sequences in pentatonics. Pentatonic lines are included on Major and Minor Blues forms, Blue Bossa, Giant Steps, Rhythm Changes, Funk, and Free Improvisation. Level: intermediate to advanced. What a great book you have written!! Truly to the point and substantial - just the kind of condensed information I wish I had had 40 years ago!!
