Jim Hawkins, der Sohn der Gastwirtin, findet bald heraus, dass der ungew�hnliche Gast ein ehemaliger Pirat ist, der unter dem ber�chtigten Seer�uber Captain Flint zur See gefahren ist. Bones f�hlt sich von den anderen ehemaligen Mitgliedern der "Walrus", Flints Piratenschiff, verfolgt. Schlie�lich erscheint tats�chlich ein Crewmitglied von Flints Schiff. Es ist der schaurige "Black Dog"! Bones kann ihn nach kurzem Kampf in die Flucht schlagen, ist allerdings aufgeflogen. Wenig sp�ter erscheint der "blinde Pew", und dr�ckt Bones einen Zettel mit einem schwarzen Fleck in die Hand, dem Kennzeichen daf�r, dass sein Tod besiegelt ist. Davon so geschockt, erleidet er einen Schlaganfall und verstirbt mitten im Gastraum. Da Bones schon seit Monaten die Zeche schuldet, durchsuchen Jim und seine Mutter seine Habseligkeiten. Wegen der Ankunft der Piratenbande m�ssen sie sich aber verstecken. Im Versteck h�rt Jim, dass die Piraten es auf eine Schatzkarte abgesehen haben, die sich in einem P�ckchen verschn�rt am Boden der Truhe befindet. Noch vor den Piraten gelingt es Jim die Schatzkarte in seinen Besitz bringen. Doktor Livesey, der besonnene Arzt der Region und Squire Trelawney, der abenteuerlustige Friedensrichter der Gegend, werden schlie�lich von Jim �ber seinen Fund, die Schatzkarte, unterrichtet. Trelawney beschlie�t sofort auf Schatzsuche zu gehen, in Bristol ein Segelschiff zu chartern und eine Mannschaft anzuheuern. Jim soll sie als Schiffsjunge auf der abenteuerlichen Reise begleiten...
