About the Book

"There is a saying that we have three faces. The first face, you show the world. The second face, you show to your close friends and your family. The third face you never show anyone. It is the truest reflection of who you are." Follow the author's meanderings through life as he tells of his early childhood in Australia; of his leaving school at fifteen, yet becoming a partner in City of London law firms; of his fight with Australian bureaucracy for five years just to be able to adopt a child; of what he calls his "Road to Damascus" moment which had a most dramatic and profound effect on his life. Allow him to reveal just a glimpse of his third face. And his soul.

About the Author :
Darryl was educated on Queensland's Gold Coast but cut short his education and at the age of 15 he left school to work on a milk run. He later worked as a window cleaner, cocktail barman, wine waiter, clerk, car salesman and a guitarist/backing singer in a rather hopeless rock band. Eventually, he got his act together, studied Law and at 28 owned his own law firm in Queensland's far north. After nine years in the tropics, he sold up and moved with his family to London. He practised there for twenty years specialising in commercial litigation, mostly at partner level in the City. In 2004 he returned to Queensland and now lives with his daughter in the Gold Coast hinterland. Darryl has been a writer for as long as he can remember. He has had a respectable number of paid articles published in British and international magazines. In 2009 he self-published his novel "The Election", a political thriller. In 2012 he secured a publishing contract with Morris Publishing Australia for his second novel, "Calvus", a historical thriller. With the demise of that publisher, Darryl signed with Custom Book Publications for the publication of three of his novels. "Agnus Dei", a legal thriller was published in February 2014, "Sleeping With Angels", another legal thriller, was published in November 2014, and "A Dragon In The Snow" a general thriller was published in October 2015. In July 2019, Darryl self-published "Bounty", a political thriller, and, as a departure from writing novels, he published his memoir, "...Passing Through..." in 2020. Apart from writing, Darryl enjoys distance walking, travel, cinema and, of course, reading thrillers.

Review :
"...Passing Through..." by Darryl Greer details his captivating experiences growing up in Australia, moving to London and going back to live in Australia, with many other exciting adventures in between. Born in 1948, Greer was raised by his adoptive mother in the Gold Coast, Queensland. In his teen years, he dropped out of school and joined the work force. Torn between a life in law enforcement or the navy, Greer finally settled for a position as a clerk in the local Magistrates' Court, a decision that would mark the beginning of his fifty years working in the judicial work force. The memoir parallels his professional life and family life, sharing information about the people he met along the way, the role they played in his life, alongside his diverse travel experiences.;Featuring a variety of interesting characters, the memoir is engaging as it covers their different lives and personalities as well as their contribution to Greer's life. Greer recounts how Van, a sixty-six-year-old woman, introduced him to scuba diving. In another experience, he recalls the people involved in his and his wife's adoption efforts. Told with humor, the work shares some amusing details that enliven it. It also includes historical details about cities, events, and people that relate to Greer's life and the places he has visited. The details provide the context for the events included in the memoir. "...Passing Through..." by Darryl Greer is an amazing read that contains colorful and moving experiences. It follows Greer's life while marking turning points in world history.; Edith Wairimu for Readers' Favorite.
