About the Book

Twenty years ago the ultimate man vs machine matchup played out. On one side was humanity's best: Garry Kasparov, arguably the greatest chess player of all time, and the as then world champion. Opposing him was Deep Blue, a chess playing supercomputer built by the engineers at IBM. By beating Kasparov in the most human pursuit of playing a game of intelligence, chess, Deep Blue ushered AI onto the world stage and into the public's consciousness. Since that day in 1997 debate has raged over the match's significance. Tragedy? Achievement? and it raised a serious question that day "Are we loosing to the machines" Westworld, TV series attained maximum ratings for its last aired series. The series have raised serious questions about AI through its plot. The creator of the artificial world where AI machines were being used to mimic real life thought that he could control the level of growth of AI machines, but AI machines managed to raise their ingenuity that ultimately went out of hand of humans. The topic is not new nor is considered so much taboo. The 2004 film I, Robot touched the same tunes. The self driving cars, drones and robots are not a myth anymore. Taking lead from advancements in AI in civil sector, militaries round the globe have implemented AI for surveillance, Air defence systems, cyber security, missile defence system etc. The command and control system of weapon systems in militaries is being heavily impacted by use of AI in sensor and data analysis system. However, AI is not without its limitations and implications. The effect of errors and manipulation of AI systems can create a havoc especially when used in nuclear weapons control systems. History has very solid examples where automation systems failed, and only human intervention saved the day. The book is an effort to discuss the impacts of Artificial intelligence on command and control systems and how far we are willing to go to forego human control especially at sensitive locations.
