About the Book

Each day we face a world rife with wars, natural disasters, injustice, and violence. How should we, as followers of Christ, respond? How do we decide what it is we are called to be and do in the midst of this suffering? Learning to discern God's call and serve in ways that reflect his love for all his creation requires intentional times of prayer and study before, during, and after we respond to the world's hurts and needs. Using the prayer attributed to St. Francis as a guide, this book will help you explore the ways in which Bible study, prayer, a variety of spiritual disciplines, and community engagement can help you to listen and respond to the leading of the Spirit so that you can follow Jesus in active and lived-out ways in your community and in the greater world.

About the Author :
A lifelong Episcopalian, Nancy Monelli holds a master's degree in theology and a doctor of ministry degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. She has ministered in Episcopal and ELCA congregations in the areas of Christian education, youth ministry, small group formation, retreat and quiet day leadership, and pastoral care for over forty years, and is the author of numerous books of devotions and program curricula for adults, teens, and children.

Review :
"Nancy Monelli is a gifted writer whose insightful prose and heartfelt stories awaken us to the need for deeper truth and greater humility. This book shines a light on what truly matters and what endures. With clarity and grace, Nancy illuminates Scripture in a way that nourishes, comforts, and heals. Her words are food for the soul--and when paired with your action, they will fill you with truth, hope, and joy, even in a troubled and suffering world." --Camille McGee, Wise Elder "We owe Nancy Monelli a debt of gratitude for offering up a rich gift. Drawing upon the deep well of Scripture, personal experience, stories, and wisdom from the communion of saints, Nancy provides an in-depth exploration of the venerable prayer of St. Francis. She does this not through analysis or explanation but by helping the reader to pray the prayer! My advice? Take it slowly. Treat it as a retreat. Commit to a chapter a day or one a week, either alone or with others. Lord, Make Us Instruments of Your Peace is a valuable tool for forming faith." --Bryon Hansen, Pastor, First Lutheran Church of West Seattle "This book is such a gift when you feel overwhelmed, with too many things competing for your time, energy, attention. Here is a prayer discipline that is beautiful in its brevity and simplicity. It gently guides us to explore, one line at a time, the profound and transformative wisdom of this beloved traditional prayer. This lovely book invites us to take back a moment to listen to our true calling as Christians." --Johanna Eby, Neurodiversity Support Specialist and Care Advocate "This book guides readers through a thoughtful exploration of the Prayer attributed to St. Francis as a way to deepen our spiritual lives. The author includes self-examination, Scripture readings, prayer, and imagination to help uncover our relationship to each pair of concepts--hatred-love, injury-pardon, etc. The pacing of the book allows for reflection and contemplation, encouraging readers to follow Jesus' teachings actively. It is a treasure of inspiration and compassion." --Ginger Harstad Glawe, Clinical Psychologist
