About the Book

Remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have become essential tools in the field of hydrology, offering powerful methods for understanding and managing water resources. These technologies provide critical insights into hydrological processes, enabling better spatial analysis and decision-making to address environmental, social, and economic challenges related to water. From monitoring river basins and assessing flood risks to managing water quality and predicting droughts, remote sensing and GIS are revolutionizing how we study and interact with water systems. Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques in Hydrology delves into advanced principles and techniques, focusing on their integration with emerging technologies like unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Through theoretical discussions, practical case studies, and innovative approaches, this publication demonstrates how remote sensing and GIS can be effectively utilized to tackle complex hydrological challenges. It serves as a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, students, and policymakers, offering insights into state-of-the-art methodologies and fostering the adoption of advanced tools for sustainable water management.

About the Author :
Mouhcine Batchi is a prominent academic figure specializing in the intricate realms of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, and human-environment interactions. Holding the esteemed position of Vice-Dean in Charge of Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Ibn Tofail, Dr. Batchi plays a pivotal role in shaping academic endeavors and fostering intellectual growth within the institution. Education: Dr. Batchi completed his doctoral studies in Geography at Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra, Morocco, in 2014. His doctoral dissertation titled “Agro-spatial changes and risks of environmental degradation in the coastal zone of Gharb (North-Western Morocco)” showcased his profound insights into the dynamic interplay between agricultural practices and environmental sustainability. Prior to his doctoral studies, he earned a Master's degree in Environmental Geography from Ibn Tofail University, where his thesis focused on the spatial estimation of water erosion utilizing GIS and remote sensing techniques. Appointments: In addition to his current role as Vice-Dean in Charge of Academic Affairs, Dr. Batchi has held several key positions within the academic sphere. Since 2016, he has served as a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Ibn Tofail, where his expertise and dedication have contributed significantly to the academic community. Furthermore, he assumed the role of Head of the Department of Geography in January 2021, further solidifying his commitment to academic leadership and excellence. Dr. Batchi's contributions extend beyond his immediate department, as he has been an active member of the Ibn Tofail University Board, serving on both the pedagogical and scientific commissions. Teaching Experience: Dr. Batchi's passion for education is evident through his extensive teaching experience at both undergraduate and master's degree levels. At the undergraduate level, he has taught a diverse array of courses ranging from Cartographic Semiology to Mediterranean Geography, equipping students with fundamental knowledge and analytical skills crucial for geographical studies. Additionally, he has supervised numerous undergraduate students, guiding them through their academic journey and fostering their research capabilities. At the master's degree level, Dr. Batchi has imparted specialized knowledge in Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Remote Sensing, providing students with advanced tools and methodologies essential for cutting-edge research and practical applications. Research Projects: Dr. Batchi's scholarly pursuits extend beyond the confines of the classroom, as evidenced by his involvement in various research projects. Noteworthy among these is his participation in the realization of the Kenitra SDAU project (Urban Development Plan) from 2012 to 2014, demonstrating his practical engagement in addressing urban development challenges. Additionally, he has been an integral member of the SHS N°2 research project, focusing on spatial and environmental changes in the coastal zone of Gharb (North West Morocco) in the context of climate change. His research endeavors underscore his commitment to addressing pressing environmental issues and advancing knowledge in the field of geography. Dr. Mouhcine Batchi's contributions to academia, research, and institutional leadership exemplify his unwavering dedication to excellence and innovation in geographical studies.
