About the Book

Common Ground tells the story of a group of boys in the town of Progress, each with unique interests and backgrounds, who strengthen their bond by embracing their differences. On the day of the big parade and the opening of the Community Center, an incident of bullying occurs. Rather than allowing negativity to divide them, the boys work together to transform the event into a learning opportunity, promoting empathy and understanding. The story encourages children to see their differences as strengths and to break the cycle of negativity by showing kindness. It teaches the importance of pausing before judging others and recognizing that everyone makes mistakes. By supporting one another and learning from their missteps, the boys demonstrate how we can all grow individually and collectively. In today's world, where differences often divide, Common Ground reminds us that empathy, teamwork, and a positive perspective can help build a more connected and compassionate community.

About the Author :
Mike is a first time author. A special thanks to Tim Collins. Without his extraordinary illustrations, this book would not be possible. Mike was first inspired by children's books when he was a second grade teacher after graduating college, while also coaching high school level lacrosse. The ability to influence and help children grow through coaching or teaching has always been motivating and fun. Today Mike has been married to his wonderful wife Liisa for 25 years. Liisa has been an elementary teacher for almost 25 years. They spend as much time as possible with their three children Lilly, Logan, and Emma. Mike spent many years coaching youth soccer and lacrosse for his children, and also helped run junior golf tournaments for beginner and advanced golfers. Mike always focuses on the positives and make it fun for the kids involved. In his writing, Mike shares lessons he has learned to help children grow and hopefully do their best to appreciate others and focus on the positives in this ever-changing world we are all part of together.
