About the Book

Cast in stardust, their love would be tested to its steel ... Torn between family and service, old dreams and new duty after the Great War, Arthur Shreve* convinces himself that good men serve conspicuously 'in the sun' and reenlists. On Oahu, he meets the androgenous Julia McCoy who turns his beliefs of sex, love, and service upside down. Both deeply in love but plagued by hails and farewells, they navigate years of separation until Julia leaves Smith College to become his wife to join Arthur on an epic climb through lavish society in the Interwar years. Their love is messy, imperfect, yet they always retreat to their one refuge: LOVE. Julia's demons―split desires and alcohol-follow her as they move with two children from pillar to post and struggle to keep passion and identity alive. In their corner, loyal officers and their American family serve beside them in the shadows...who will not only save each other, but many more to come as they all march toward a catastrophic test of love and strength only found in the glare of war. *A relevant true story that validates the age-old paradoxes and dilemmas of milspouses, military families, and people in service. A vivid and immersive account of the Golden Age of the US Army during the tumultuous Interwar years underscored by American history that captures an inspiring hero and role model written with historical accuracy by a family member with first-hand knowledge.
