About the Book

Sankofa Shadow Work: Diaries of a Diasporic Diviner is a profound literary cosmogram following the intimate journey of a Black queer Southern Diviner, Griot, and Gatekeeper. Through a dynamic blend of memoir, public history, conjure, and fabulation, this book offers a powerful exploration of life, death, and rebirth cycles, centered around the quest to love and heal both ancestors and oneself in a world hostile to Black life . The manuscript explores the realities of chronic fear and trauma, both individual and collective, and prioritizes accessible, multidimensional responses and healing technologies. Grounded in Womanism, Black Feminism, Afrofuturism, Afrogenics, and Africana Spirituality, it challenges colonial interpretations of The South and its native Africana and Indigenous communities. Ultimately, Sankofa Shadow Work is a celebration of one Black Heroine's Journey, inviting readers to confront and embrace their shadows, center pleasure, and build safe, nurturing communities as the empire consumes itself.

About the Author :
Sara Makeba Daise, MA (she/her) is a Black, queer, fifth-generation Gullah Geechee Writer, Griot, Cultural Worker, Healer and Diviner from Beaufort, SC, whose interdisciplinary work embodies Sankofa. Her areas of focus include Afrofuturism, ancestor elevation, intergenerational healing, Black queer erotics & desire, and African Diasporic rituals, history & culture - particularly in the South. As a writer, Sara explores these topics through memoir, prose, folklore and speculative fiction.

Review :
Sankofa Shadow Work weaves together storytelling tradition and rooted academic vigor. Daise's voice is the Sister Girl Academic you need in your life, whether it's in your classroom or on your altar. Everyone talks about generational trauma, but this fresh take centers on generational healing for all--ancestors, the living, and those yet to come. -Tayler Simon, Owner of Liberation is Lit
