About the Book

This is the first book in the series Lectio Divina for Kids, which is compiled of over 30 topics from God's Word, covering all of Salvation History - from Creation to the New Jerusalem at the end of time. The main audience of this book and series are kids 10+ who are preparing for the Sacraments, but also anyone who wants to read God's Word and through meditation and prayer grow deeper in love with God. Each topic is styled in the Lectio Divina prayer format, which allows for God to be truly active in our lives, as his Holy Word is central to this style. That means, that each topic will be composed as follows:

Lectio (latin for reading) is the first part. Here the whole Biblical text of the corresponding topic will be presented from the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition translation. If you wish to read the text from your own personal Bible, please feel free to do so. Please do not speed read through the text, rather read it slowly and carefully, as this allows us to be more open to what God is telling us.

Meditatio (latin for meditation) is the second part. Here the Biblical text will be meditated on, meaning that it will be explained with text and images. To make it more interactive and encourage the reader to be attentive to the text in the Lectio part, questions will be asked on each page, with the answer, explaining text and corresponding image on the flip side. This will encourage the reader to know what he is reading and allow God's Word to grow inside their heart.

Oratio (latin for prayer) is the third part. Here following the explanation of the text, we are called to pray about what was read. Prayer points and impulses regarding the text are listed here, which allows for us to tell God everything that weighs our hearts.

Contemplatio (latin for contemplation) is the fourth part. This part is closely tied with Oratio, as here, through our prayer, we are to enter into God's presence in silence and listen. Simply listen in silence to God. This is where we contemplate on what the text means for us personally, listen to what God is telling us, what he wants from us, how he answers our prayers. This is crucial, for God always speaks to us, we just have to truly be hearers of his Word.

Actio (latin for action) is the fifth part. Traditionally not part of the Lectio Divina style, it is however important for our faith, as faith must go out, reach out, become works that glorify God. Faith without works is dead as St. James tells us, so each topic will encourage us to take some sort of action, that will lead to God's greater glory and so bring Christ to all those around us.
