About the Book

Reality and the Field Vol. II - Reason, Revelation, and Reality by S. C. Sayles In Reality and the Field, British philosopher-theologian S. C. Sayles continues his Logos-centred journey through theology, cosmology, and metaphysics. This second volume in the three-part Reason, Revelation, and Reality collection gathers selected academic papers published between 2019 and 2025, expanding the vision first articulated in Vol. I - Reason and Revelation. Where the first volume examined the recovery of truth through faith and reason, Reality and the Field turns to the informational and metaphysical structure of creation itself. Drawing together philosophy of mind, quantum ontology, and Reformed theology, Sayles advances a coherent model of the universe as a divinely authored field of intelligibility. In this vision, reality is not a self-contained mechanism but an ordered revelation-an act of communication sustained in The Logos, the eternal Word by whom all things consist. Across essays that move from cosmology to consciousness, Sayles traces the deep logic that underlies existence: the unity of being and meaning, the interplay of mind and matter, and the redemptive restoration of coherence in Christ. His synthesis draws on classical sources-Augustine, Calvin, Van Til, and the great metaphysical tradition-while engaging the frontiers of modern thought in physics, information theory, and phenomenology. Rejecting both materialist reductionism and mystical monism, Sayles articulates a Reformed metaphysical realism in which creation remains wholly creaturely yet wholly intelligible because it is upheld by divine reason. Matter becomes meaningful not by self-organization but by participation in the order of The Logos; consciousness becomes coherent not by chance but by correspondence with divine intelligibility; redemption restores not abstraction but communion-the renewal of the field through Christ, the living centre of coherence. With characteristic clarity and poetic restraint, Sayles shows how reason, revelation, and reality are not rival domains but mutually interpreting dimensions of one divine order. The essays collected here invite readers to rediscover the cosmos as revelation, to see knowledge as covenant, and to understand existence itself as the echo of a spoken Word. Reality and the Field is both a summation and a call-to think, worship, and behold the universe once more as a creation of meaning. It will speak to theologians, philosophers, and all who seek a worldview where faith and intellect converge, and where the question of reality finds its answer in The Logos.
